First Day of Summer

From a young age, both of my children have been really good with a hula hoop. Jay and I passed on our round shelf butts, so I think the kids are genetically pre-disposed to being good at keeping the hoop above the waistline.

Lately it is the girl's thing. The other night around 11 PM I went into her room to investigate a noise and found her, half naked and doing the hula. The noise I had been hearing was the swish swish of the hoop.

I suppose it says something about my parenting that my six year old is even up at 11 PM in the first place. During the summer months, I have a really hard time being consistent about bedtime. As long as both kids are at home and safe, I don't care what time they fall out or what part of the house they're in when they do it. So yeah, work that hula hoop all night long, just don't bother mommy when she's watching her crime stories.

That's the best part of summer! Doing hula at 11, I mean. (I suck at hula hoops, go figure -- I have a butt AND hips. oh well)

I love the header! So pretty.

Bed time went out the window the day school was out. I imagine it will make it's way back around, but for now, the kids are camping out in Aututmn's room giggling and thumping.

You make me laugh. If you can't stay up late and half naked hoola hoop when do you find the time?
PS
My mom used to put aluminum foil over the bedroom windows because we lived pretty far north and it was light out well after 10...classy.

I wish I could keep that hoop up -- my hips don't swing that way. And as far as parenting goes, my kids are now staying up until 2-3-4 am and not getting up until noon. I'm letting them do this for about one more week, then the summer jobs start and that should suck the fun out of the summer. At least we'll all be sleeping better.

So that is why I could never hula hoop? I have no ass or hips?
Hmmm......who knew? I guess if it was put above my chest I would have been a champ!

Awesome!

P.S. I wish I had a round shelf butt. I really do. Apparently I am not alone in this.

We have a similar bedtime routine, or lack of one. It's summer. I blow my tucking-in wad during the school year.

Your description of your butts made me laugh out loud. My children have no ass. Seriously, The Boy can still wear his size 4T undies. It's crazy. The Mr. has no ass either. I don't see hula-hooping in our future.

Ha! I am the same way. My kids can sleep in forever. I get so much more done. I woke Korby up today at 11am. Now that we are in this big house they can stay up late downstairs. Its nice.

my 6yo just discovered she can hula hoop both directions. until that moment, it had never occurred to me there were two ways to hula. i can only hula to one direction, and pathetically at that. no early bedtimes here, we're usually outside until dark and/or the skeeters start biting. i'm just happy they are learning to sleep in.

My daughter woke up at 10:45 the other day and I felt guilty for about 5 seconds and then I realized- hey , it's summer!

In the summer time, bedtime is pretty much when they're getting on my nerves and I can't take it any more.
We went to the Free Friday downtown concert last Friday and there were chicks hula hooping with light-up hula hoops. I bet the girl would have loved it!
