Mother's Day 2010

On Sunday we drove out to Cannon Beach, which is about an hour and a half from where we live. Incidentally, the drive to the shore is about as long as it was for us when we lived in Gainesville, only the view to get there is much, much prettier.

It was still far too cold (and windy!) to get in the water but swim suits have been purchased for our inevitable return. We walked along the beach while the kids romped in the sand and played in a bit of the icy cold water.
Here we have the famous haystack rock:
I love this view of the houses along the beach and the mountains behind them:I don't know if I'll ever get over seeing mountains on a day to day basis. They really do excite me.

Both of my children appear to have some type of bizarre Moses complex where they always feel they have to strike these parting-the-sea type poses. I don't know what that's about.
And finally, a little Mother's Day love for me:I hope you all had a lovely Mother's Day, no matter if you're mother to children, dogs, cats, or fish. It all counts to me.

Oh my, the sky and the water look so blue and clean. I'm going to start pretending I don't live in Florida either.

Oh this is beautiful Tammie. It looked like a glorious day! I think it's funny that the kids both do that pose. It looks like they don't miss Florida too much.

Locals would make fun of me when the snow caps would take my breath away. I never got used to it. I bet you won't either. And isn't that great that it won't?
Beats flat any day doesn't it?

Happy Mother's Day! Looks like a good one! Did you see that Alec Baldwin is hosting SNL next week for the season finale? Yea!

Sounds like a great day!! So beautiful. PS: you might need wetsuits instead of swimsuits, but the beach is so wonderful year round! Looks like you guys loved it. And yes, mountains are fantastic to have around...

Do you still feel like you're on vacation? I think I would if I had just moved to somewhere so different. Looks like you all had a beautiful day. Happy belated Mama's Day to you, too!

So what you're saying is that when I come and visit you, we'll totally go looking for pirate treasure? Because I am ALL over that.

(Love the pics of the kids. I think all kids do that--I've always thought that they're just flinging themselves open to the bigness of the thing.)

We love Cannon beach, too! We don't swim in this ocean; it's always too cold. It's always good for wading, though. On a warm day, the kids wear shorts and tshirts, and end up getting soaked by wading. There's a beach in Neskowin that has a little strip of water flowing into the ocean, and it's shallow and calm, and therefore a great place to swim while right on the beach. This picture kind of shows the creek and then in the distance you can see where it pools.

really fantastic. Before you moved, I thought of you visiting the coast and having a great time. It's as if your life is transforming right before our eyes.

So happy to hear your day was special! :-))
