Random Thoughts

*If you all have been paying attention, you are probably more than well aware of how I spent last night, but for you newer folks, I was watching the Oscars. (oh Alec......) I have to admit that I started falling out about 10:30. I rarely go to the movies so I had no real interest in who won what. Plus, even though I don't consider myself old, I'm definitely at the age where I don't know who a lot of the celebrities are. (I'm looking at you Amanda Seyfried, whoever the hell you are.) Speaking of young people today, how did Miley Cyrus get invited to the Oscars? I think it's apparent that anyone can get in at this point. I should have just shown up, I may have had a shot. Anyway, back to the hosts. They were funny of course, and I was pleased to see that Alec didn't wear a white suit, or some similar old guy attire. As much as I love Alec, he has a habit of occasionally dressing like Matlock, which always leaves me shocked and frightened. Anyway, here's a clip of some of last nights funnier moments.

*Yesterday, a customer left a pedometer in Jay's store. So today I'm wearing my new pedometer. I'm excited to see how many steps I've taken by the end of the day. They say that 10,000 steps is a healthy goal. Have any of you ever worn a pedometer? Any thoughts?

*After a bit of a dry spell, I've been reading some awesome books lately. I've veered from my goal list somewhat and have simply been choosing books that interest me. I've just finished Wicked and I'm now halfway through The Book of Lost Things, which is about a boy who stumbles into a horrific fairy tale world. Both of these books are definitely more fantasy than what I normally read. I tend to gravitate towards real life subject matter. But I guess my own reality has been real enough for me lately, and it's been helpful and fun to retreat into another world for a bit.

*I don't know if all of you heard the big news, but it appears that demons everywhere are uniting and getting together to make a film. Yes, there is going to be a Smurfs movie.

*And for no other reason than I want to, here's a recent picture of Alec Baldwin:

Once we got a pedometer in a box of rice krispies. This was before kids--I was teaching high school and working out and having a life; I think I took 25,000 steps between breakfast and dinner. Now I just sit on my ass all day yet somehow i'm completely exhausted.

You will be amazed at how many steps it actually takes for that 10,000. Until I got my dog I thought it would be no problem but it was harder than i thought.

As for Miley - she just made a movie so i guess that is why. I saw the ad all weekend for the movie. As for Amanda I know her as the gal from Mamma Mia - but I never saw Mamma Mia so I could be incorrect.

I hate pedometers, they tell the truth, and I like to say I've moved and done alot. We are not friends! LOL What did you think of WICKED? You read that fast!

karen: i know what you mean. by nine pm i can barely keep my eyes open.

peggy: gotcha!

kashoan: i seem to be stuck at around 2500 steps. i do need to mop the living room though so that may get me over the hump.

i loved Wicked and thought about reviewing it here but am a bit intimidated by it. :)

I thought of you last night. I'm glad you got some eye candy and laughs. You deserve it.

ducky: well, i am pretty secretive about it and keep my celeb crush on the down low. HA!

regarding Wicked: the only thing that really bothered me about it was that it would kind of jump from scene to scene. like you'd read 100 pages of a passage and get all involved in it and its characters and then it would abruptly end and in the next passage you would be 10 years into the future and not much would be further said about the last scene. so yeah, that kinda bugged me. but ultimately i thought the book was incredible and so well thought out.

as for amanda...yes! and that dear john movie is based on a book right? didnt you read it?

I can't believe this, but I actually FORGOT to watch the Oscars. We didn't watch anything last night. I'm so pissed. I really wanted to see it. Can't wait for the Smurfs movie. I hope it's animated. I hate it when *they* take an animated show and turn it into a movie with *real* actors.

Amanda is also in Big Love. We didn't watch the Oscars, we watched a Criminal Intent marathon and played Farmville!

I don't think I've ever used a pedometer, but 10,000 steps sounds like a lot! lol!

Yes, Amanda IS the gal from Mamma Mia, Never Been Kissed and Dear John, I think.

I really want to read Wicked. I used to read fantasy all the time, now I read more biographies and novel but... you are right, sometimes I choose my reading according to what I need to balance what is going on in my life...

How's the moving coming out?

Alec = Matlock? Maybe you heard me laughing when I read that part. For the first time in ages I watched the Oscars until the end. I'm not sure why...I think I'd seen ONE movie that was nominated.

I haven't read Wicked. Somehow the book itself was intimidating to me.

R.H. Ducky said...

yeah, i did read it. sandy is reading it right now. i would tell you that i'll send it to you once she's done...but i doubt you'd believe me ;)

We watched last night and thought of you as Mr. Baldwin did his Baldwin thing. :)

I did a pedometer for awhile and then got frustrated when it kept resetting for some reason. I never went back. But it was very satisfying for a short while.

I loved Wicked, although it's been ages since I've read it. I also liked Lost Things although I expected to like it more.

And I *so* need to see the Smurfs movie. What is with the giant 80s revival thing?

I never watch the Oscars because I never go to the movies. The closest theater is about 30 minutes away and I'm always to zonked out by the end of the day or week, that I don't have any desire to venture out. Anyhow, you're a hoot with your Matlock comment. I used to watch that show with my mother -- I'm embarrassed to admit it now, but I think I actually enjoyed it back then.

Have a great week, walking your cares away.

Can we go see the Smurfs movie together? I think that would be a hell of an experience! ha ha ha

I too, thought of you when I was watching the Oscars. Would it be too cruel to think for just a nanosecond that Alec might like a pedometer for Christmas? (Will I be expelled from your comments for saying that?)

I also did not know who the young and beautiful people were, except for that lovely Carey Mulligan girl who still seems so unspoilt. She was great in "An Education" or whatever it was called. The whole thing made me feel old because I remember when people like Sandra Bullock looked like teenagers.

I didn't watch the Oscars...I was telling someone else that unfortunately I don't think I'm sophisticated enough to get most Oscar worthy movies...

I haven't read anything since Olive Kitteridge, which I liked a lot. I haven't really been in the mood, which is sad because normally I enjoy reading so much.

lia: alec forgives you for not watching.

hotch: i really need to rent big love. ive heard so many good things about it.

ct: its coming along. im anxious and excited. thanks for asking.

mag: im glad you had a chuckle. :)

ducky: ha ha. you're right. ;)

daph: his baldwin thing. i like that.

jodi: my mom used to watch matlock too. i remember being mad at her once because she didnt meet me at the bus stop to walk home together because she didnt want to miss the ending of an episode. ha.

cyndy: i dont know if ill still be here when it comes out. but if i am, its a date!

hester: ha ha ha! of course you could never be expelled. and you arent the first to say something similar. anytime jay sees him on tv he yells "theres that fat guy you like." whatever.

i really want to see the education. i hadnt heard of it until the oscars. and carey mulligan is lovely. she definitely has something that stands out as different from a lot of other celebs.

penny: i think you're being too hard on yourself. :)

R.H. Ducky said...

lol...ouch. ok, i'm going to work on that ;)

Never had a pedometer. Greg has one and loves it. Then again he does a lot of walking and going up and down stairs for his work.

Did you like "Wicked"? Please review it, I love your reviews! There's a musical performance based on the story, in April, I think.. which we're supposed to go see. If it's the same story..

Smurfs movie? hmmmmmm....
