Beach Days

Despite living in Florida all my life, I've never been a beach gal. I hate the sun, and I only mildly like saltwater. But as I've gotten older I've learned to appreciate the beach for it's ability to make me relax. There are no computers, phones, or televisions at the beach. There are no chores to be done, pets to feed, or laundry to fold. There is nothing but sand to mold and buckets of water to carry back to shore:
I don't take much to the beach.---just the usual sunblock, towels, and drinks. I don't bring books or portable craft projects. When I'm at the beach, I don't want to do much. I can handle the overseeing of some sandcastle building though:I enjoy watching silly beach antics: We arrived early and stayed into the afternoon. It was easily the most relaxing day I've had in months.

When can I go back?

I love the beach. I grew up near the beach and spent summers on the beach, so I miss it now that we live more inland and going to the beach is a weekend trip. It is so relaxing and you can't beat how tired the kids are after swimming in the surf!

Well said!
Take me back with you! I am a sucker for a day at the beach! Interestingly, it was only late last summer that I actually went for a real swim in the salty water! I would always play and bob about in the waves- but never really go off and swim. Well, I finally did with 4 friends and my two older boys and you couldn't get me out! I was in there for over 4 hours!!!! There's nothing like a day at the beach for relaxing. try not to think about the few extra buckets of sand left behind in the car! OR am I the only one with that problem?

earthmama

I loved going to the beach as a kid, but we had cold beaches in Oregon, and I remember thawing out in the car on the way home! I love building stuff with sand at the beach. The kids look like they had a blast!

I love just staring at the ocean. Such a nice thing that you live near it. I have to make a pilgrimage to get to the ocean.

We did the same thing on Saturday. My parents were camping at the lake so we joined them for an afternoon. It is so nice & relaxing...I agree. I did take several magazines to read. Its an excellent & cheap way to wear out the kiddos. Do you have to pay to go there? Just curious. NEVER been to the ocean....only really nasty looking lake water here.

One of the best days we had last summer was when me and my friend Lia took all our kids down to Galveston (pre-Hurricane Ike) and spent the day on the beach. We brought a cooler with fresh tomatoes, snow peas, and hummus, along with some sin-food for the kids. They splashed and played in the sand while we watched and talked about all that stuff girls talk about. It was lovely. And yes her car was a wreck. But she didn't care...and all I had to do was hose off my kids and apply aloe vera gel. Lovely day.

Oh, that looks like so much fun. The beach is always cold here so we rarely go. However, I love the beach and the ocean. I would love to experience warm water at least once!

Do you drive over to the gulf? Because that is just so peaceful (the gulf, not the drive). Here in Jacksonville the beach, while not as nice as the gulf coast, is always so empty (relative to the NY/NJ beaches I grew up near) that it's especially relaxing.

kash: no there is no cost at the beaches we go to, but if we cant find a decent spot, we have to pay to park..one of the reason we leave the house early...to beat the crowd!

karen: we usually just head over to the beaches around st augustine. we like how there arent a lot of people there. its more relaxing for me when im not in a huge wild beach crowd, especially when trying to keep my eyes on the kids.

ct: thanks! love your new pic!

Once again...I totally agree with you. I find the beach a bit too sandy and salty but once you chill out and go with it, it is super relaxing. And no chores. Bliss!
